Winter Wonderland | Rhythm

This winter, we at Kalanidhi invite you to dive into the musical concepts that shape Kuchipudi choreography and composition: rhythm and melody, or tala and raga. For centuries, Kuchipudi dances have been shaped by rhythmic and melodic patterns that, hand in hand, contribute to so much of the intrinsic beauty of the choreographies. 

As dancers, we find that these musical elements truly are a wonderland. We are so excited to put a spotlight on rhythm in the context of Kuchipudi, and to share with you that same sense of wonder!

On January 23rd, we bring to you a 60-minute show on Rhythm, performed and narrated by Kalanidhi’s company dancer Ankitha Durvasula. Through lively and vibrant performances of technique-heavy pieces and explanations of the unique meters that lend to her expressiveness, she is sure to captivate your attention.

This show, which is part of our year-long Seasons with Kalanidhi series, is free to watch, and is being conducted in partnership with Aim for SEVA. We ask that in lieu of a ticket price, those who are able consider making a donation to their organization through this link.
