We bring you an abridged version of Chandalika, choreographed by Guru Vempati Chinna Satyam. Master Garu, as we and his many students around the world know him, was a prolific choreographer of both solo pieces and dance dramas. Chandalika is one of Master Garu’s most popular dance dramas, and features his Kuchipudi re-telling of the famous novel by the same name, written a couple of decades earlier by Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore.
At the center of the story is Chandalika, a young girl whose encounters with those around her lead her to discover her own inferior status in society, and ultimately reckon with and escape her oppression.
